Glasgow, Scotland's City Council has learned that drivers using disabled tags take half the parking spaces in the city. Able-bodied motorists are trying to save thousands of pounds in parking charges. Cheats cost the city an estimated 1.75 million pounds a year. A newspaper said the tags could be made on a home computer.
Alistair Watson, of Glasgow's Land Services Committee, said: "I am sick and tired of those who abuse a system intended to help those in need." Those with a genuine mobility problem can apply to their local council for a tag. It can also be used by a relative who drives a disabled person--but only if the disabled person is in the vehicle. Parking attendants can no longer check tags.
