NCP has commissioned independent research, specifically aimed at the relationship between car park crime and other urban crime.
Following the publication of the Home Office report into Car Park Crime and the Secured Car Park Scheme (Between the Lines), Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) will be undertaking detailed research in Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester, specifically looking at the relationship between Car Park Crime and other Urban Crime.
These three cities have been chosen because they are all regional shopping centres competing with large out of town shopping developments.
NCP’s Director of Research, Tony Sedgwick explains the reasons behind the new research:
'Traditionally, car park crime has been linked to car crime and the Home Office Report did nothing to challenge this assumption. My conviction is that it has far closer links to the crime levels in the surrounding streets.
A clearer understanding of the strength of this link will enable crime reduction resources to be targeted where they will do the most good and that may not necessarily be confined to the car park.'
