As part of an international consortium, Ascom will handle the delivery and installation of a new toll system in the Dominican Republic. The order – worth 7.8 million US dollars (over CHF 10 million) – confirms Ascom's leading position in the market for large and complex toll solutions.
Using the innovative, modular MultiToll integrated system, the Transport Revenue division at Ascom will design and install the equipment for three toll plazas, comprising 32 toll lanes and the control system for the new toll solution, in the Dominican Republic by summer 2004. The fully networked solution allows for efficient collection of motorway fees using automated coin machines and electronic toll collection for cashless payment.
Cost-effective implementation, high degree of investment protection
In addition to its proven specialist and technological know-how in developing toll systems, Ascom won the order on the strength of the large functionality and openness of its MultiToll system, which can be easily customized to the specific requirements of the Dominican toll road operators.
"The project in the Dominican Republic is further confirmation of the enduring success of our MultiToll solution and of Ascom's leading position in the international market for large toll collection solutions", says Riet Cadonau, Member of the Ascom Executive Board, Transport Revenue Division. "The modular concept and completely standardized system allow us to provide customized solutions with which we can easily integrate both existing and new components."
In addition to automated coin machines, Ascom's MultiToll solution features a system for detecting in-car ID tags, which counts the number of times a vehicle passes through the toll and then uses the information as the basis for cashless payments. The corresponding toll lanes are equipped with toll collection road-side equipment and anti-fraud video enforcement system.
Simplified maintenance via online access
The core of the Ascom MultiToll system is a central systemwhich processes all toll booth data. A central computer handles the subscriber management for electronic toll collection. In addition, the staff can monitor all functions of the toll solution from here. Internet or intranet access to all parts of the system simplifies maintenance, troubleshooting and system updates.
