Operation Scrap-it is a London-wide campaign to get rid of untaxed and abandoned vehicles from London’s streets. The initiative is designed to improve Londoners' quality of life by ending the environmental blight caused by nuisance vehicles.
Operation Scrap-it is part of the Government's Together campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour, announced by the Prime Minster and the Home Secretary last October. Operation Scrap-it is funded by the Home Office.
There are two main elements to the scheme.
- a free take back service
- from October 2004 all London councils will
- clear abandoned and untaxed vehicles from the capital’s streets within 72 hours of being reported by a member of the public.
- crush any untaxed and unregistered vehicles found on their borough roads.
Every local council in London will now get rid of your unwanted car for free and dispose of it safely.
