With an effort unmatched so far Ascom Transport Revenue has delivered the Ticket Vending Machines one month before the Olympic Games started. With this project Ascom has once again proven that they are capable to cope with the most challenging projects. And the equipment operate to the full satisfaction of the customer.
The stations on the Railway line between the Athens' International Airport and the city centre have been equipped with over 64 Ticket Vending Machines and 113 Validators supplied by Ascom and controlled by theAscom Terminal Management System. These self-service Ticket Vending Machines are also be suitable for handicapped passengers. They will initially issue the current Athens' paper tickets and are upgradeable to the contactless system planned for Athens.
Ascom was awarded the contract due to the technical superiority of its equipment, and the customer being convinced of Ascom's ability to complete the project in time for the Olympics within the extremely tight time frame.
"We awarded the contract to Ascom because we were convinced of Ascom's product, and their ability to complete the project against a very tight immovable deadline of the commencement of the Summer Olympics Games in Athens", said Mr. Aristides Mameletzis, General Manager of Alstom Greece. And he further points out: "I am glad that we have made the right decision by choosing Ascom". From the contract award until delivery Ascom needed 16 weeks only to realise this project.
Riet Cadonau, General Manager of the Transport Revenue Division, emphasizes the special demands to Ascom on this project. "All involved parties have done a professional job under extreme deadline pressure in order to get this system operating in due time."
