The City of Tulsa today announced plans to replace almost a thousand of its old single space parking meters city wide with the latest in high-tech multispace equipment.
The City has given the go ahead to Reino Parking Systems for the supply of about 100 of its latest RMV1 MultiBay meters, each managing up to 10 on-street car spaces. The Reino RMV1 MultiBay meters were selected ahead of equipment from three other vendors in a competitive bid process.
With the RMV1, users simply select their parking space number (marked on the curb) and insert payment – the time remaining is shown right on the screen as it is on a regular meter. Unlike “Pay and Display” machines, where the motorist walks to the machine, buys a ticket and is required to walk back and display the ticket on the dashboard of his or her car, MultiBay meters are entirely digital, using no paper and requiring no return trip to the vehicle.
As a result of its highly successful purchase and installation of two machines 18 months ago, The City invited bids for MultiBay equipment. Along with a growing number of environmentally concerned cities like San Francisco, Tulsa’s Invitation For Bid specifically stated that Pay and Display machines, which employ printers and paper consumables would not be considered. After many years of theft and vandalism of its single space meters, The City placed equipment security at the top of its evaluation criteria, along with ease of maintenance, aesthetics and alternative payment options. With its compact size of just 4ft tall, no paper rolls for maintenance staff to change and available refundable smart card and credit card options, the Reino RMV1 scored the highest points of all vendors’ equipment.

The City and County’s Vision 2025 economic development program embodies the spirit of the region and shows how government and community can work together to make Tulsa a better place to live and work.” Along with its planned 18,000-seat arena, most of the City-managed projects of Vision 2025 involve capital improvements to roads, streetscapes, downtown housing and urban renewal. The new Tulsa Traffic Bronze RMV1 meters will form an important part of the renewed Tulsa streetscape, removing hundreds of unsightly meter poles from The City’s sidewalks.
Tulsa Traffic Operations Manager, Mark Brown said “The Reino MultiBay system represents a tremendous step forward for Tulsa. These machines are highly reliable and secure, so motorists won’t have to deal with the frustration of broken and missing meters. They’ll improve both downtown aesthetics and City revenue and that’s a win-win for Tulsa.”
