Oldham Council has chosen NCP as the preferred company to join its Parking Plus Partnership
Following a recommendation from the Audit Commission on the provision of certain services, Oldham adopted a high profile community campaign to prepare a Masterplan Strategy to regenerate the town centre and the district centres surrounding the Borough.
In what is seen as a pioneering arrangement between a private operator and a local authority, NCP will play an important role in supporting the Council in its regeneration work.
As well as carrying out the normal enforcement duties on and off street, NCP will help the Council develop its Park and Ride scheme, provide a central control room facility, improve message signing and the trading potential of district centres.
Cabinet Member for Environmental Services Councillor Jeremy Sutcliffe said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of this process and NCP as the preferred choice of private partner, and we expect NCP to bring the high quality of its organisation to Oldham.
“We are confident the new partner will be a great success and not only improve parking systems already in place throughout the Borough, but introduce new schemes to ensure the service continues to get better in the future.
Subject to final negotiations, NCP takes over in July from the current operator, Euro Car Parks
