Scheme will speed-up entries/exits at multi-storey car park
UK Headquarters, Woking Borough Council (WBC) has replaced the pay-on-foot (P-o-F) parking scheme in its Victoria Way multi-storey car park (MSCP) with a new Varioflex® system from Parkeon - the world’s leading provider of parking space management solutions. It brings licence plate recognition to a car park in the Surrey town for the first time.
The additional technology has been introduced to raise barriers automatically for season ticket holders at the dual entry/exit terminals. The objectives are to provide a more convenient service for drivers and to speed-up the flow of vehicles in and out of the car park.
The facility is available to holders of WBC’s Parking Season Tickets and Disabled Parking Season Tickets. Subscribers can register three different vehicle licence plates on a season ticket. If they are driving a vehicle not registered on the system, then the contactless card can be presented at entry/exit terminals to raise the barriers. The cards can be used in the same way if a number plate registered on the system is illegible, e.g. because of dirt, snow, or damage.
WBC plans to extend the system, replacing P&D parking controls in the three MSCPs that comprise Woking’s “Shoppers’ Car Parks”, subject to obtaining the necessary consents. An opportunity arose for the Victoria Way MSCP to be refurbished ahead of the others.
The Varioflex pay stations accept coins, bank notes, and credit card payments.
3C International, Europe’s leader in integrated credit card payment solutions, authorises the card payments on-line. The pay stations have the technical functionality to introduce Chip ‘n’ PIN credit card payments, as and when required – the payment system being EMV-certified.
The whole installation is linked to a central Varioflex server in WBC’s parking office. This generates comprehensive financial and managerial reports that will enable the Council to review, control and develop the town’s off-street parking facilities using accurate historical data.
“Parkeon won the order for its Varioflex system following open competitive tendering. The Company was able to meet all of the Council’s technical and performance specifications and fulfil its requirements for a comprehensive pay-on-foot solution that can be developed to meet future requirements”, says Phil Evans, WBC’s Parking Services Manager. “The centralisation system has expansion capabilities that enable it to be deployed in additional car parks around the town, should we wish to do so.”
WBC’s off-street parking facilities have a total capacity of approximately 4,500 vehicles. Monthly, quarterly and annual season tickets can be purchased either at Woking’s Civic Offices, over the phone, or by post. Application forms may be downloaded from the Council’s website. Disabled season tickets are issued free-of-charge.
