The European Parking Award has been established by the European Parking Association as a biennial award for excellence in parking. A prize is awarded in each of the following categories· Newly built car parks
· Renovated car parks
· Specialist parking products in car parks
· On-street parking projects
The object of the award is to promote qualitative improvements in car parks, in particular in practicality, construction, maintenance, management, design and safety. The award also promotes the development of good working practices in parking on the street.
Publicity for the award will also improve the image of the parking sector.
An impartial panel appointed by the EPA Board judge’s entries.
The awards will be presented during the EPA Congress in London, 1st & 2nd October 2003.
Conditions of Entry
Multi storey and underground car parks
Entries must relate to a new or renovated car park of at least 200 public parking spaces, planned as a single unit (although execution may have taken place in stages). Where an entry relates to a renovated car park, the original car park must be at least 10 years old.
On street parking projects
Any on street parking project is eligible.
General Criteria
All entries must meet the following requirementsEntries must be submitted to the EPA Office in Köln no later than 1st January 2003. The EPA board will shortlist up to 3 entries in each category.
Entries must be made using the entry form provided by the EPA secretariat. Entrants may submit any number of entries but each entry must use a separate form. All entries must be submitted to arrive at the EPA office no later than 1st January 2003.
An entry fee of €500 is payable for each entry by 1st January 2003.Entries must relate to projects, which have been opened, re-opened or introduced no earlier than 1st January 2001.
Presentation Panels
Each entry must be accompanied by 1 or 2 presentation panels, which will be exhibited during the EPA Congress in London. An extra set of photographs used on the panels must be provided for use in Parking Trend magazine and for inclusion in the presentation of all short listed entries at the EPA Congress.
Presentation panels must measure 50x70cm (width/height) with rounded corners and be a minimum of 5mm thick. The maximum weight per panel should not exceed 4kg.
A 5mm diameter hole, 20mm from each side at each corner must be drilled at every corner.
The presentation panel must have a flat, white background. Lettering in relief or three-dimensional images are not acceptable. Only one side of each panel may be used.
At the bottom of each panel a 2mm thick line should be drawn, 50mm from the bottom and terminating 50mm from each side. The following information set in Helvetica bold 16pt uppercase type should appear below this line:
· Project name
· Location
· Date of project opening
· Name of entrant
· Relationship to the entry (eg developer, owner, investor, architect, designer)
The name and address of the entrant should be clearly legible on the back of each panel.
The panels should arrive at the EPA office no more than 1 week after the entry form is submitted. The EPA office will take responsibility for receiving and storing the panels, transporting them to the congress and exhibiting them there and for removing and returning the panels to the EPA office. The EPA recommends that entrants insure their panels. Return of the panels is on the expense of the entrant
Each short listed entrant must be represented at the EPA Congress in London.
The EPA will hold the copyright for each entry.
Judging
The EPA will appoint a panel of five members from different countries to assess the shorltisted entries. The EPA Board is responsible for the final decision and may reject the decision of the judging panel and may decide not to award any prize if the quality of the entries is not considered acceptable. Neither the EPA Board nor the judging panel will enter into any correspondence on the awards. By payment of the entry fee, entrants are deemed to have accepted the terms of the decision.
The winners will be announced on the Congress. No information about the decision of the jury will be given prior to the official pronouncement.

Points awarded
Each entry will be awarded points on the basis of the criteria described on the following scale:
· Inadequate1 point
· Adequate2 points
· Good3 points
· Very good4 points
· Excellent5 points
If any of the criteria do not apply to any particular entry, it will be awarded an average of the other marks for that criterion.
