The parking meter has taken on a new look in Calgary, making easier to use and understand. The Calgary Parking Authority has placed new decals on the new meters to provide improved information and convenience to customer.
Dale Fraser, Manager of Calgary’s Parking Authority is reported to have said “the new Labels provide readily understandable information such as length of stay, parking fees, where to report malfunctions, and tow-away times. Customers concerned with earlier labelling have been addressed in the new design.”
The new meters work in conjunction with colour coded street sign that match the meters, the colour codes identify the maximum time a person can park.
There are five different colours codes, Red that identifies a short stay meter with a maximum stay of thirty minuets, with yellow representing a one hour stay, grey representing a stay of up to two hours and green indicating a stay of three or more hours. While a blue parking sign and meter will depict a disabled parking area.
These meters are design to reduce the traffic obstruction cause by drivers parking on street during tow-away times, which reduce the flow of traffic during peak times. By containing information on tow-away times it is hoped that this will help drivers to readily identify and avoid parking on street during these times.
Along with the tow-away information the meters contain payment instructions the meter are equip to receive payment by cash, token or smart card
