A long-standing feature of many car parks is to be put to test in the City this year, as electronic Smartcard make their public debut as London Underground season passes.
The £1.2billion project will kick off when 400,000 season ticket holders receive the new Smartcard s that they will wave at the appropriate gates to enter their station. The second phase will involve the issue of 2 million pre-pay cards, debited on a journey-by-journey basis, which will ultimately be re-loadable by telephone or via an Internet site.
