Cllr. Ann John Chair of the Employers’ Side of the Greater London Provincial Council* said:
“Londoners should observe parking regulations as usual. The strike will affect up to eight London boroughs. These areas have contingency plans in place and will be operating a partial parking enforcement services. This will include making the best use of staff that do come to work and some managers will be out on the streets emptying parking machines and issuing tickets. Some local authorities also have CCTV cameras that enforce parking regulations.
“Two weeks ago, London workers got a pay rise of between 7.7 and 11 per cent as part of the national pay deal. London councils will struggle to pay for this rise for council employees and simply can’t afford any more.
“Meeting the £4000 London weighting demand would cost the capital’s councils £250 million. This would mean raising council tax by £90 a year, axing 11,000 jobs or cutting services.”
