Transport for London announced today that it is stepping up the enforcement of bus lanes across the network, to keep vital routes throughout London clear. This enforcement will apply on all days of the week including Sundays.
TfL has launched a further poster campaign around London to remind motorists that bus lanes are monitored by cameras. Vehicles captured by cameras in bus lanes will incur a £100 penalty charge.
Director of Transport Policing and Enforcement, TfL Jeroen Weimar said:
“Five and a half million people use London’s buses everyday. By keeping bus lanes clear, buses are now running more reliably than ever before. The vast majority of drivers help keep London moving by avoiding bus lanes. Those few that do drive or park in them cause delays and disruption to everyone. We enforce every bus lane in London and will penalise those who choose to obstruct others.
“Remember that bus lanes, like other traffic restrictions, also operate on Sundays - an increasingly busy time for traffic. All bus lanes are clearly sign-posted with the hours of operation. If you want to use a bus lane then get on a bus.”
