Exel has appointed Thomas Heydorn as Seafreight Director for Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA).
Thomas Heydorn has over 19 years experience in the logistics industry. He began his career with Rohde & Liesenfeld (R&L) as Seafreight Traffic Manager for Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia, becoming Export Manager of Seafreight in 1992. He relocated to Singapore in 1996, where he took on the role of Managing Director for four years, returning to Germany in 2000 as General Manager for Ocean Import & Logistics.
The Strategic Rail Authority has appointed Jonathan Riley as Executive Director, Freight. Riley has served in this position on an acting basis since January 2003.
In this role he will continue to lead the SRA's Freight Directorate in defining and developing the freight aspects of SRA policies and strategies. In particular, he will be responsible for freight policy in respect of the Channel Tunnel, network development, grants and promoting the success of rail freight.
Having joined the SRA in 2000, Jonathan played a leading role in developing the Freight Strategy and the rail freight elements of the Government's 10 Year Plan. He has also led the Innovative Solutions in Rail Freight Competition, the review of Sensitive Lorry Miles and developed the new Company Neutral Revenue Support grant scheme.
Prior to joining the organisation, he gained extensive experience in the rail industry working for both British Rail and Thameslink. He also worked for a worldwide transport consultancy specialising in commercial analysis and designing strategic change.
Riley said: “In recent months, the SRA has made big strides with the launch of the Company Neutral Revenue Support scheme and the publication of the Strategic Rail Freight Interchange Policy, resulting in a clearer policy framework for rail freight to thrive. We are committed to continuing to engage with all stakeholders to secure further growth in the rail freight sector.”
