Bus passengers have been issued with Coventry's latest weapon in beating smoking - bus tickets carrying warnings.
The new tickets are the latest idea from the city's quit-smoking team.
A total of 500,000 tickets issued on Travel Coventry buses operating across the city will carry messages to inspire smokers to give up smoking.
Members of the smoking cessation team, based in Greyfriars Lane, launched the scheme on Wednesday at Travel Coventry’s depot.
In total, 16 different health warnings have been printed for the tickets, including messages about the fatal diseases smoking causes and the effects of passive smoking on children.
And health workers hope the new way of getting their message across will help capitalise on New Year resolutions.
A smoking cessation adviser, said: "For us January is the most important time of year. People make resolutions to give up smoking and we're here to help them. As well as the messages we want to remind people of the simple advantages of giving up. For example if someone stops smoking in January by the end of the year they will have saved £1,600 and could reward themselves with a nice holiday."
