The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to roll out a contactless smart card project for Indian commuters by the end of the year.
The contact-less smart card will work just like mobile phone cash cards where the commuters will pay a certain value and use it to it runs out.
Anuj Dayal, DMRC's chief public relations officer said "These cards work like cellular phone cash cards. Commuters can buy a smart card of a certain value and use it for every travel until it runs outs. Sensors will automatically pick up signals from the card even if it's in your purse."
A major educational programme will soon begin helping travellers understand the benefits and how the system works.
