Another Jubilee Line station today received a Government award for its tight security measures to protect staff and customers.
Westminster station became the ninth on the line to receive the Secure Stations award, which will be presented by John Spellar, Minister for Transport and the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Frances Blois on Thursday 15 August.
The award is one more step towards bringing every station on the line into the Secure Stations project within the next four months.
Jo Dent, secure stations co-ordinator, London Underground said: "London Underground’s priority is the safety of its staff and customers. The Secure Stations award is designed to give customers and staff extra reassurance that measures are in place to ensure their safety.
"So far, all but one of the London Underground stations on the Bakerloo line have been accredited with the award and all stations on the Jubilee line will be completed by the end of the year.
"Among the key factors that are examined is the ability to provide easy access to help points, phones and alarms for both staff and customers, good station lighting and the effective use of the public address system."
Dave Hembury, group station manager, London Underground said: "Receiving the Secure Stations award is acknowledgement of the ongoing working relationship between London Underground and the British Transport Police.
"Safety is our number one priority and we will endeavour to continue to provide a secure environment for our staff and customers."
Figures released by the British
Transport Police in their annual report in July, show that crime on London
Underground has fallen in contrast to a 5.6% increase on the national rail network.
