3/1/2003 Tube absorbs effects of congestion charge Source:http://www.thetube.com, Source date: Tube services have been relatively unaffected by the implementation of the congestion charging in central London. During the first two days of the charge coming into effect there have been varied reports from across the network with some stations reporting increases in customer traffic and others reporting decreases. Any accurate reading of the situation is difficult given that it is the mid-term break for schools and the Central Line remains out of service due to the Chancery Lane derailment. It can be said with certainty that the 'chaos' that was predicted to hit the network has not occurred. A London Underground spokesman said: "Our staff have a perception that there is a slight increase in numbers. This is noticeable where our stations coincide with those of Network Rail.
"An accurate measurement of any increase in traffic will not be possible for some time yet. So far it has been business as usual for our staff."
