SBB to extend services and self-service for passengers with Ascom ticket vending machines

The Swiss Federal Railways, SBB, has ordered an additional 384 fully equipped ticket vending machines from Ascom Transport Revenue (Gümligen) and will technologically upgrade the 675 machines that are currently in service. The total volume of the order is 28 million Swiss francs. The first deliveries will already take place this year.

The SBB has again put its trust inAscom Transport Revenue and has placed an order for a further 384 ticket vending machines (TVM) with touch screens. It is a follow-on order for machines that are already well established with the public. The ordered machines incorporate the very latest technical knowledge and take into account the high demands of public transport.

The contract includes the upgrading of the existing 675 ticket vending machines to the very latest technical standard and the standardisation of the information technology platform. Hence the availability for the customers and the ease of servicing of the system will once again be improved.

The existing ticket vending system allows the passengers to choose from a wide range of tickets and additional functions on the ticket vending machines. From multi-ride tickets and event tickets, change of class tickets and special offers such as "Snow'n'Rail" through to the charging up of the Handy Prepaid – the functions offered on the machines are well used. In addition to coins and banknotes the machines accept all common bankcards and even "Reka-Checks" (cheques from the Swiss travel cooperative, Reka). A modern management system permits the monitoring and maintenance of the whole system from a central operation centre.

The complete volume of the order with all options and upgrades amounts to 28 million Swiss francs. The first 100 machine will already be delivered this year.
