2/1/2004 Nippon Express to launch tracking service Source:http://www.eyefortransport.com, Source date: Nippon Express is to introduce a tracking service in February that will use the US Global Positioning System to continuously monitor the locations of packages containing personal information. Nippon Express will use commercial Secom locators, already used to track people, pets, cars, etc, that will be placed inside in delivery bags. Earlier this month, Nippon Express introduced a dedicated service for handling packages containing personal information, with managers designated to supervise the transport and delivery operations. The dedicated service carries an additional charge of Y1,000. Considered a supplement to that service, the new GPS-assisted service will be offered for ¥500.
Through an alliance with Nipponkoa Insurance Co, Nippon Express will also provide insurance coverage of up to Y50 million. Expenses covered by the policies include newspaper ads apologising for incidents in which packages containing personal data are lost.
