Appointment of Chief Executive

The Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) today announced the appointment of Nick Newton as Chief Executive during the transition to a new industry structure. His appointment takes effect from 11th September 2004.

Nick Newton said:

"I have accepted this role both to engage with the Department for Transport and railway bodies to help ensure a smooth transition for SRA functions and staff into the new railway structure, and to keep the business of the SRA going for as long as that momentum is needed."

Nick Newton is currently Deputy Chief Executive of the Strategic Rail Authority.

This appointment follows the Secretary of State's appointment of David Quarmby, currently Deputy Chairman of the SRA, to the role of part-time Chairman, for three days a week, with effect from 11th September 2004.
