9/1/2004 Wincanton wins another Comet contract Source:http://www.eyefortransport.com, Source date: Following an on-going review of its logistics network, Comet has awarded Wincanton a prestigious three-year contract to operate its existing 270,000 sq.ft DC in Harlow, Essex. Demonstrating a flourishing relationship between the two companies, this key strategic move underlines Wincanton’s successful management of the electrical retailer’s distribution centre in Westbury, Wiltshire and its management of the nationwide fridge ‘take-back’ scheme. The Harlow facility currently stores and distributes a wide range of white and brown goods for onward delivery to approximately 83 stores in the South and Midlands. Employees at the regional DC have now switched from the existing operator to Wincanton under the Transfer of Undertakings Regulations (TUPE).
Martin Taylor, Wincanton’s managing director, general retail and industrial, said: “This contract win significantly builds on our Comet portfolio and demonstrates our position as a specialist in retail logistics. Our aim at Harlow will be to further strengthen service by tightening lead times and meeting supply chain demands.”
