Telefónica Móviles has chosen Ericsson to provide radio access and core infrastructure to migrate its existing network in El Salvador to GSM 850 MHz. The national network was launched in July.

In addition to the network equipment, the turnkey implementation includes several telecom services from Ericsson including network deployment, network design, and network support.

"We feel honored that a global client such as Telefónica Móviles has selected Ericsson and our GSM solution to evolve its existing network," said Lars Lindén, President Ericsson Central America. "We are pleased to work as partners with Telefónica to deliver the best possible services and performance to its customers."

"This technological step, with Ericsson's help as the GSM system provider, demonstrates Telefónica's commitments to offering subscribers in El Salvador the highest quality mobile telephony and to keeping a clear focus on customer service," said Telefónica CEO Juan Antonio Abellán.

Ericsson currently provides access, transmission and intelligent network capabilities for Telefónica Móviles' wired and mobile networks in El Salvador and Guatemala.

Ericsson is shaping the future of mobile communications and broadband Internet through continuous technological leadership. Providing innovative solutions in over 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
