Proposed tougher controls on health and safety and vehicle emissions were discussed at a recent central London seminar, which drew together London’s bus and coach operators, TfL and other statutory authorities.

The seminar was used to launch a consultation process on proposed changes to the Mayor of London’s guidance document on the granting of London Service Permits.

The guidance document outlines the criteria against which applications from prospective operators of services in the Capital are decided. The consultation is intended to give operators an opportunity to involve themselves in the development of the updated document

Peter Bradley, Publicity & Commercial Bus and Coach Manager at Transport for London said: “The Seminar was a great opportunity for Transport for London to engage with operators and stakeholders over plans we have to develop commercial coach and bus services. We welcome their constructive feedback which will be seriously considered during the consultation period ”.

Notes to Editors

Operators wishing to operate London bus services which are not part of the London tendered bus network are required to have a London Service Permit (LSP) granted by London Bus Services Ltd on behalf of Transport for London, under section 186 of the Greater London Authority act 1999.

In deciding whether or not to grant an LSP, consideration must be given to criteria that have been adopted by the Mayor of London in a Guidance Document
