2/1/2006 Davies Turner continues Scottish expansion Source:http://www.eyefortransport.com, Source date: Davies Turner is continuing its regional hub development program with the relocation of its existing surface freight activities at Cumbernauld, Scotland to larger and more modern premises nearby. The new building comprises a 2,000 m2 warehouse with an additional 200 m2 of office accommodation. The site is just over one hectare, and the warehouse has five loading bays, with a secure 40-metre deep service yard enclosed by a palisade ring fence. The new facility is strategically located at the M73/A80 junction – between Glasgow and Edinburgh – connecting in the North with Aberdeen, and in the South through the company's overnight trunking services with Manchester and Birmingham. The expansion of Davies Turner's surface freight activities in Scotland is another indication of the company's commitment to Scottish importers and exporters. Last year, Davies Turner Air Cargo relocated its regional HQ in Scotland to a new office and larger warehouse facility at Glasgow airport. In addition, it also opened a new branch at Edinburgh, as well as just South of the Border, in Newcastle. "This is a much needed expansion of our surface freight operations in Scotland as our existing depot was already working to full capacity," commented Derek Craig, Davies Turner's manager in Central Scotland. According to joint managing director Philip Stephenson, Davies Turner, now that the new facility is fully operational, the company will apply to HMRC for customs warehousing approval. Cumbernauld is one of Davies Turner's key Regional Distribution Centres in the UK. The other RDCs are in Birmingham, Bristol, Dartford, Dublin, Heathrow and Manchester – supported by sixteen satellite branches.
