3/1/2006 New contracts for APL, Wincanton and Stonepath Source:http://www.eyefortransport.com, Source date: APL Logistics has been awarded an ocean freight and supply chain services contract with VF Corp, Procter & Gamble has contracted Wincanton to manage re-packaging and customisation activities, and Stonepath has secured a logistics contract with a Brazilian engineering company. North Carolina-based apparel manufacturer, VF Corp, has selected APL Logistics to deliver ocean freight consolidation and other supply chain services. APL Logistics will provide VF Corp with services that include supply chain visibility through See Change, the company's proprietary IT system that integrates supply chain data from any source; EDI; bar code scanning; and label printing. Procter & Gamble has awarded Wincanton a contract to manage re-packaging and customisation activities for its Fabric & Homecare business. Wincanton will oversee the entire re-packaging process, from the specification and design of the packaging through to packing activities. Apart from setting up a “white room” in the warehouse to carry out the work, a customised warehouse and production management system will be in operation for inventory control and batch traceability. Stonepath Group has been awarded a significant logistics project by Sao Paulo-based EIF (Engenharia e Investimentos Ferroviarios), an engineering firm specialising in reconditioning locomotives. Revenue for the project is in excess of $2.5 million. EIF has engaged Stonepath to orchestrate the complete end-to-end logistics solution for the movement of 53 pre-owned General Electric locomotives, each weighing 160 metric tons, from their points of origin in the US to Santos, Brazil where they are reconditioned and sold to major Brazilian Railway companies. EIF expects to purchase another 400 units within the next two years due to strong demand for pre-owned GE locomotives in Brazil.
