3/1/2007 Double clubcard points reward Tescos green shoppers Source:http://www.tesco.com, Source date: Customers at Britain’s favourite supermarket will collect double Green Clubcard Points when they buy any product from Tesco’s hugely popular green and organic ranges. And following on from the enormous success of the bag re-use scheme launched in August last year, they can also collect double points for re-using any shopping bags. Customers purchasing products such as organic fruit and vegetables, energy-efficient light bulbs and environment-friendly brands like Tesco Naturally and Ecover will collect double the number of Clubcard Points for an eight-week period starting on Thursday, February 15. The promotion will be supported through a high-profile in-store campaign, a special Green Clubcard mailing, and a TV advertising campaign featuring a host of stars. Tesco Marketing Director Ian Crook said: “The bag re-use scheme has already helped us save 300 million carrier bags1 by changing consumer behaviour, and we’re now hoping to help customers do even more for the environment by giving them double points on green products.” The Double Green Clubcard Points promotion is just the latest way of collecting Clubcard Points. The bag re-use scheme has put us well on track to meet our target of cutting carrier bags issued by a quarter by 2008, and four million customers have collected Green Clubcard Points through re-using their bags. In addition, customers can also earn Green Clubcard Points for recycling mobile phones and inkjet printer cartridges2.
Everyone at Tesco is getting behind the offer, which applies to green products purchased in store and on Tesco.com. All staff will receive a voucher for a free re-usable shopping bag, and we’ll be putting special greeters in many of our larger stores offering coupons that will entitle customers to a free “Bag for Life”.
