3/1/2002 Setec to launch new SIM card Source:www.cards-worldwide.com, Source date: Smart card solution provider Setec has introduced a new SIM card, the eSIM™ 3G, for third generation mobile networks. The new SIM card has an EEPROM memory capacity of 64 K bytes and it supports GSM functionality. These features allow it to be a platform to migrate from 2G to new 3G services. Setec’s third generation SIM cards are available in the third quarter of 2002. As the new USIM card complies with both GSM and 3G requirements, all the mobile services offered today can be accessed with this new card. The card enables the operator to offer a wide range of value added-services such as m-commerce, m-banking, as well as information, entertainment and gaming services. It also stores contact information (phone numbers, email and Internet addresses.) The eSIM™ 3G is a multiplication and multi-standard card supporting both ETSI and ISO standards. Mr Pekka Santanen, Setec Senior Vice President says third generation mobile networks will enable services such as mobile Internet access, multimedia, video-conferencing and mobile commerce in different mobile devices.
