5/1/2002 Leiden Follows Example With Wireless Credit Parking Source:www.triffiq.nl, Source date: As second city in The Netherlands the municipality of Leiden follows the example of Gouda where hundreds of parking users are successfully parking on credit since 15th of March with the TeleParking System. This means that within a few months the system is also made available in Leiden. Today on the Intertraffic, the international tradeshow on traffic, an agreement was signed to this effect. Triffiq is the name of the unit that allows parking users to start and stop parking transactions from their car with one button push. Paying too much for parking is history now. The device calculates the parking time used to the precise minute. The bill for the parking fees comes later in the mailbox. Leiden’s first interest in introducing Triffiq lies with the handicapped persons. Until January 1st of this year they did not have to pay for parking. Now that they do have to pay for parking, Leiden wants to pay for parking easier for them. Of course the system will be open for all other parking users as well. It is expected is that- just like in Gouda – especially companies in Leiden en its suburbs will also see the big advantages of this system. The municipality of Leiden has chosen Triffiq after careful evaluation because the system has more advantages for the motorist as well as for the municipality than the alternative of mobile phone-based parking. For example the use of Triffiq is not dependent on the permanent availability of the GSM network. Triffiq stores the transaction in its memory and sends it later to the Service Centre via the inbuilt GSM. Shortly parking users from Gouda can park with their Triffiq in Leiden and Gouda will get a visit of Triffiq users from Leiden. This is the whole idea behind the system - you can park anywhere in the country with your Triffiq. Because Triffiq knows all tariffs, can purchase day permits and can even store resident permits in its memory. The supplier in The Netherlands - Mobipower – is negotiating with other municipalities in order to make parking with Triffiq possible for everyone. Thieves should show no interest in Triffiq. Just like a credit card the device can be blocked for further use and even the license plate number is stored in the Triffiq. While passing by the enforcement agent cannot only see whether a valid parking transaction has been started but also whether the Triffiq sits in the right car. Mobipower launches Triffiq in The Netherlands. Mobipower is a joint venture of TPS Ltd. (Israel) and Vialis Traffic & Mobility (The Netherlands). Also for the technical realisation Mobipower works together with reliable parties. Triffiq has been developed together with Motorola and Vodafone is responsible for the GSM network via which Triffiq is sending its data.
