Job Survey Finds Industry Recovering

A recent job survey conducted by Bernhart Associates indicates that the direct mail industry is recovering from the economic downturn that started this time last year. The results are being compared to the previous four quarterly surveys. "[Companies with hiring freezes] peaked at 38 percent in the winter survey, but now some of those hiring freezes are being lifted," said Jerry Bernhart, president, Bernhart Associates in an article for DM News.
Companies with hiring freezes are down to 30 percent and most of those expect that to change in the next 3 to 4 months. Sixty-eight percent of those surveyed plan to increase staff in the second quarter and 75 percent of those will be new hires.
Account management, technical, database management and analysis are job categories experiencing the most growth.
The number of companies that plan to reduce staff is only 2 percent, down from 11 percent.
