8/1/2002 SchlumbergerSema And Itsmobile Partner To Offer Mobile Phone Parking Payments To Pay & Display Machines Source: www.itsmobile.com , Source date: SchlumbergerSema and Itsmobile today announced that Dublin City Council, the municipal authority for the City of Dublin, Ireland has completed the installation of 150 mobile phone payment enabled DG Classic Pay & Display machines which service all controlled on-street parking in the high tariff city centre area. Irish mobile commerce company Itsmobile has developed the mobile payment system which allows users of Pay & Display machines to bill the cost of parking to either their mobile phone bill or their credit card. Itsmobile have entered into commercial agreements with all three cellular network operators in Ireland. Corporate users can even bill the cost of parking to their corporate phone bills during working hours, but bill their personal credit card or personal phone bills at other times. Implementation of the new payment system is relatively simple for the City Council. The reason for this is because there is no change in operational procedures and the enforcement process does not change. The Pay & Display ticket remains as proof of payment for on-street parking and the basis of enforcement. The decision to install these machines was made after a successful 6 month technical trial. The mobile phone enabled DG Classic machine enabled with Itsmobile’s payment facility were demonstrated to the Dublin public at several events in the past few months and customer feedback has been extremely positive. Owen Keegan, Director of Traffic, Dublin City Council stated that “Dublin City Council is very enthusiastic about the mobile phone payment facility developed by Itsmobile and SchlumbergerSema and we are delighted to be offering this new service to our customers in the city centre area. The successful launch of the facility is the culmination of a very lengthy process of evaluating the various technical options and developing necessary supporting business models. With almost 800 machines on-street we remain totally committed to the SchlumbergerSema DG Classic Pay & Display terminals. This new service from Itsmobile strengthens that commitment”. “We are very pleased to develop this unique solution for Dublin City Council; the successful collaboration between SchlumbergerSema and Itsmobile has resulted in this very exciting cashless payment application,” commented Kieran McCrea, Sales Director for Itsmobile Ltd. Mobile phone penetration is in excess of 70% in most European countries, which makes now the optimum time to launch this mobile phone payment scheme. Research has shown that mobile phone penetration can be as high as 90% among motorists in some cities.
