Finnish company Buscom Oy has implemented the system, which has been designed to handle an estimated 1.2 m travel transactions a day. Approximately 850,000 Smart Cards have been reserved for use and can be obtained from points of sales located around the region.

Kauko Suhonen, Managing Director of Buscom Oy said: "This is a remarkably extensive system delivery. A corresponding system in the same size category where Smart Cards are available for everyone travelling on the region, and where the cards can be used in busses, metros, trams and ferries, cannot be found in Europe."
