Mediation Sales In Telecoms – What Does The Future Hold?

Source:www.chorleywood.com, Source date:

“The mediation market has not peaked yet. The economic downturn of 2001 and 2002 will continue to affect the sector but it is expected that demand will continue to rise and that the market will have recovered fully by 2004 – by which time the surviving operators will have launched next-generation services.”

Who are the winners?

According to Chorleywood’ s analysis of contracts for mediation systems announced between January 2000 and April 2002, the most successful vendor in the mediation sector was Comptel which was awarded 15 contracts world-wide including TIM Peru, Radiolinja (Finland) and Deutsche Telekom (Germany). The next most successful vendor was Narus with 13 contracts, which included Ono (Spain), Williams Communications (US) and BT Ignite (UK).

The whole sector experienced a disappointing year in terms of sales, though the 24 contracts announced in Q1 2002 bode well for the future.

What operators are looking for

Chorleywood’ s survey of 467 fixed and mobile operators revealed that 81% have purchased a third party solution, 12% use a system which is part of the CCB system and 7% use in-house solutions.

It is expected that the number of third party solutions will increase as operators replace existing in-house systems or add new mediation systems with next-generation functionality.

Asked to pinpoint the most important criteria when procuring a new mediation system, operators rated local presence most highly as this would guarantee that they would receive support and assistance from someone who understood their local market.

Data security is still deemed the most important product functionality according to 42% of those surveyed.
