11/1/2002 Transport For London Statement On Tube Fares Source:ww.transportforlondon.gov.uk, Source date: Tube fares, including Travelcards, will therefore rise by an average of 1.55 per cent next January, meaning prices will remain constant in real terms. "Zone 1 single fares will remain unchanged - a reduction in real terms of 1.5 per cent. Prices for Zone 1 Carnet tickets also remain unchanged for the second year in succession. "The average increase will be reduced to 1.45% when the expected launch of Tube Pre-Pay later in 2003 is taken into account.
"It must be remembered though that when some individual fares rise they can only do so in increments of 10 pence due to the constraints of the ticketing machines. That can mean the increase of some individual fares, while small in cash terms, represents a larger increase when viewed in isolation as a percentage."
