Honolulu upgrades transport system

Hawaii’s capital Honolulu is planning to introduce a new smart card-based transit fare system for the city’s bus service.
According to local press, the system will include a satellite global positioning system to enable the automation of messages on buses announcing upcoming stops and city information.
Honolulu’s public bus system currently caters to 230,000 commuters each day.
The new system will also include a $12.4 million upgrade of the system’s radio communications.
