This evening ASDA will be named as the Grocer 33 Best Value Supermarket for the sixth year running. You may find the following information of use:-
· The weekly shopping survey conducted by The Grocer found that ASDA checked in 20 of the cheapest full baskets in the year (to May 31 2003) compared to it's nearest competitors Morrisons who provided 13 of the cheapest baskets and Sainsbury with seven.
-
· The Grocer also found that ASDA had reduced it's average full basket price from £38.57 last year to £36.45 this year.
-
· ASDA also came top for customer service winning 21% of the Grocer Storewatch titles - Waitrose took second place, Sainsbury third and Tesco fourth.
-
· Talking about the Grocer 33 Award, Tony DeNunzio, ASDA's president and CEO, said: "The award is real testament to how seriously we take being number one on price. However, coming out top for customer service is equally important - it's a real pat on the back for all the hard work our store colleagues put in day in and day out, and full credit must go to them - it's their award."
Editors' Notes
The Grocer 33 is a shopping basket survey that provides information on price and availability throughout eight regions across the country. It tracks price variations from store to store, chain to chain and region to region. In each region a mystery shopper visits one of the major grocery retailers for 33 grocery items - a mix of own label and core brands.
