From water conservation efforts to recycling initiatives, special projects of all kinds are under way in honour of Earth Day, thanks to the financial support of Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB locations across the country. The company is announcing nearly $2 million in donations to schools and conservation groups on Earth Day, which is Thursday, April 22.
The funds are earmarked specifically for environmental or beautification initiatives to benefit local communities. Each store and club will designate a school or organization in their community to receive a $500 grant, and a company associate will present a check to the group.
"We are proud to partner with local schools and organizations that are making a positive impact on our communities," said Betsy Reithemeyer, vice president and director of the Wal- Mart/SAM'S CLUB Foundation. Since 2000, the company has donated more than $8.4 million to environmental efforts.
