Washington, D.C., May 21, 2004 - The National Retail Federation (NRF), the world’s largest retail trade group, announced today that MARTA Cooperative of America’s 108 independent retailers have joined NRF through their headquarters office. By joining NRF, MARTA has become a part of a diverse group of retailers and suppliers that support the industry through education and programs aimed at building retail communities.
The largest member-owned buying group in the consumer electronics industry, MARTA Cooperative of America is comprised of more than 100 member companies representing over 500 stores selling appliances, electronics, and furniture. A not-for-profit organization, MARTA provides services to insure the growth of its members through sharing of knowledge, aggressive marketing, and profitable merchandising.
"Routzahn's has been associated with both NRF and MARTA many years,” said Daryl Routzahn, President and CEO of Routzahn’s and a member of NRF’s and MARTA’s Boards of Directors. “I am excited that MARTA has strengthened our voice in the retail community, specifically among electronics and appliance retailers, by aligning with NRF.”
The National Retail Federation is the world's largest retail trade association, with membership that comprises all retail formats and channels of distribution including department, specialty, discount, catalogue, Internet and independent stores as well as the industry's key trading partners of retail goods and services. NRF represents an industry with more than 1.4 million U.S. retail establishments, more than 23 million employees - about one in five American workers - and 2003 sales of $3.8 trillion. As the industry umbrella group, NRF also represents more than 100 states, national and international retail associations.
