was previously group operations director of Safeway plc prior to its acquisition by Morrisons. Lawrence has joined Sainsbury’s for a set term of 16 months to 8th January 2006. During this time he will focus on driving efficient operating performance throughout the supply chain including Sainsbury’s seven new distribution facilities. He will also help to recruit his long-term successor.
Justin King, chief executive said “I’m delighted we have secured someone of Lawrence’s calibre and experience having invested significantly in updating our supply chain infrastructure we now need to focus on detailed operational issues to ensure our customers see the benefit”.
Martin White, the current director of Sainsbury’s Supply Chain who has implemented this major transformation work, has decided to pursue his career outside the company. Justin King said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Martin for his major contribution to our business and in particular for his commitment and hard work in what has been an extremely ambitious project.”
Lawrence said “I have always been an admirer of the Sainsbury’s brand and I am delighted to be joining the team at this important time”
