If your pet is prone to straying, make sure you’re covered, says ASDA
If, like Red the Lurcher from Battersea Dogs Home, your pet has a touch of wanderlust, make sure your pet insurance covers you if your dog or cat goes astray, says ASDA, a leading provider of pet insurance.
Most dog owners have undergone a frantic search for their prized pooch that has escaped from the garden or slipped out the front door when the family’s attention has strayed. And the moggy’s independent spirit and tendency to disappear for days at a time has caused tears in many a household. Last year, 7,805 dogs and 2,629 cats were rescued by Battersea Dogs Home, many of whom were restored to their rightful owners.
“It’s very upsetting when a beloved pet escapes from the garden or house and goes missing. Also, as more and more people choose expensive ‘celebrity’ breeds such as David Beckham’s Shar Pei ‘Carlos’ and Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua ‘Tinkerbell’, thieves are tempted by the prospect of selling them on for a fat profit. Insurance can’t remove the distress of loosing a pet, but it can give you the peace of mind that everything possible will be done to find your pet and restore it to the family home as quickly as possible.” Said Gev Lynott, director of financial services at ASDA.
ASDA’s pet insurance covers animals who have been lost, stolen or who have strayed and can’t be found, and includes £1,000 of cover for advertising locally about a lost pet. Pet owners can elect to have this cover added to their standard policy.
Customers can pick up a leaflet in all ASDA stores, call 0845 600 2732 or visit www.asda.com for information or cover. Lines are open 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday – Friday and 9.00am to 1.00pm Saturday. Allianz Cornhill provides ASDA’s pet insurance.
