Neil Sachdev (47) has been appointed to the newly created role of commercial director for Sainsbury's and will join the supermarket in March 2007. In this new role he will have a wide-ranging brief, initially focused on procurement and will report to trading director Mike Coupe. Neil will also join the Company's new senior leadership team and sit on the retail board.
Neil brings with him 28 years experience at Tesco, where he worked in a range of different business areas, having held the posts of supply chain director and retail director and most recently as stores board director UK, responsible for a range of property and operational issues.
Mike Coupe said: "We are delighted to have secured somebody of Neil's calibre. His excellent retail experience and strong understanding of our market will be a great asset to Sainsbury's and the company's management team. We look forward to the significant contribution he will make."

Neil is on the Board of the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
