You can now pick up the gift of learning along with your weekly shop at Tesco thanks to Tesco Clubcard Vouchers, which from today can be exchanged to pay for all or part of an Open University course.
Using Clubcard deals Tesco shoppers can now trade their vouchers to receive 4 x their value - so for every £10 of Clubcard vouchers shoppers will receive £40 towards course fees at The Open University.
Richard Brasher, Tesco Commercial Director, said: “We're delighted to get the OU on board with what we think will be a popular partnership for customers. Clubcard deals already help thousands of people achieve things they might otherwise find hard to afford and now gaining higher education qualifications is added to that list."
The Open University is the UK’s largest University, teaching 35% of all part-time undergraduate students in the UK each year. It is ranked fifth of all UK universities for teaching quality, according to the Sunday Times University Guide 2006.
With one fifth of all new students under the age of 25, The Open University is also becoming an alternative for students who want higher education without a massive debt.
Recent statistics put the cost of an undergraduate degree at over £33,000 – at The Open University typical total fees for an undergraduate degree are not even £4,000 and now students can pay for all or part of that cost using their Clubcard Vouchers
There are no qualification requirements to study at The Open University – 33% of undergraduate students have fewer than 2 A levels.
Open University spokesperson Neil Coaten said: “The Open University has always worked to include all people in higher education as we aim to make access to the University’s programmes as flexible as possible. This extends to giving our students a number of options to meet course fees, including this new project. We look forward to seeing Tesco shoppers use Clubcard vouchers to access our innovative study methods.
“The University has always pioneered new ways of offering university education. This latest innovation has the potential to bring the University’s quality and expertise to new students, who will be able to discover for themselves why the results of the National Student Survey shows that OU students are more satisfied with their university experience than those at any other UK university.”
