The Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd and Visa International have announced they are migrating the Buy n’ Fly Visa card to EMV (Europay-Mastercard-Visa), the globally accepted standard for chip payments.
In a statement issued, the bank says the move will make the Visa card the first EMV compliant chip programmed in the country. The card is linked to Malaysia Airlines and allows holders to redeem loyalty points for free flights, holidays and Malaysia Airlines merchandise.
Cardholders will also be able to redeem points at over 400 retail outlets across the country. Visa International country manager for Malaysia June Seah says Visa uses new technologies to provide opportunities for its member banks to strengthen their customer loyalty while reducing fraudulent transactions.
Seah claims the Asia Pacific is ahead of most of the world in the move to chip cards, with Visa EMV programs already launched in Australia, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. All new debit and credit cards embedded with the chip must be EMV compliant for January this year,
