CyberMark, has restructured in order to focus on promoting chip cards to shopping malls and automobile dealerships.
In the restructuring process, the company let go of an unspecified number of staff and announced the departure of vice chairman Bill Norwood.
Bill Norwood is known as a “pioneer” of the smart card industry and was responsible for one of the first campus smart card deployments at Florida State University.
The Company says Norwood left “to pursue other opportunities,” and according to Card Technology news Norwood declined comment. Laura Snyder, director of marketing, says CyberMark has seen greater interest in recent months from campus card issuers in using smart cards for computer network authentication.
She says the company plans a test this summer with unnamed clients of an application allowing cardholders to transfer money to smart cards from bank accounts or credit cards. But with the campus market slow to adopt smart cards, CyberMark also will focus on its SmartWrench application, which allows auto dealers to load maintenance coupons onto customers’ chip cards, and its SmartGift card for shopping malls, Snyder says.
