Marks & Spencer is promoting the very best of British in its first ever collection of Seasonal Recipes, inspired by ingredients that are at their best at this time of year.
April Preston, who has led the development of this collection at Marks & Spencer, comments: "We understand that our customers' eating habits change with the seasons and we are constantly looking to provide appealing, inspirational foods that best suit these seasonal needs. As autumn approaches, there is a return to oven-cooking, roasting and 'comforting' treats and these trends are part of Marks & Spencer's Seasonal Recipes selection."
New this autumn are Cauliflower & Taw Valley Mature Cheddar Soup (£1.89) - tangy cheddar matured slowly for flavour in Devon, teamed with fresh cauliflower, and Pork & Somerset Cider Casserole (£3.79) - fresh British pork marinated in cider and thyme, tart British Bramley apples, with light and fluffy rosemary dumplings.
Also new this season are Fresh Parsnip & Bramley Apple Crush (£1.69), with butter, cream and seasonings, and Beetroot & Roasted Red Onions (£1.99) with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.
Marks & Spencer is also promoting seasonal produce from around the UK. The retailer harvests apples from UK orchards, including favourites Royal Galas, Cox's and - the retailer's best-selling apple for the second year running - the delicious Braeburn.
Marjorie's Seedling Plums, a quintessentially English autumn fruit, are sourced from Herefordshire and Kent exclusively for Marks & Spencer.
From the fruit bowl to the cheese-board, Marks & Spencer has worked with producers and suppliers around the country to source beautifully tasting and traditionally produced cheeses.
Wessex Goat's Cheese and Cornish Brie are two new cheeses to be produced for sale solely in Marks & Spencer food halls by a family-founded Cornish company. Both cheeses are creamier than their French cousins due to the richness of Cornish cow's and goat's milk.
Paul Heathcote, renowned chef, restaurateur and strong supporter of British, seasonal produce, explains the benefits of using seasonal ingredients in cooking: "For me, food is about using what is in season and what is on your doorstep. That's why I use British produce because it's ready to cook, ready to eat, and tastes exactly right for the time."
Marks & Spencer is committed to providing its customers with British produce wherever possible, and by offering these seasonal favourites, customers can be assured that they are buying the very best in home grown foods, whilst supporting British agriculture.
