Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced 802.1x wireless security protocols for its popular 2400 family of wireless handheld data collection terminals.
The handhelds, including models 2415, 2425 and 2435, are the backbone of data collection systems for thousands of companies worldwide. The ability to now provide stringent 802.1x-levels of wireless security directly from the computers protects transmitted data from unintended access or malicious tampering.
802.1x is an IEEE standard that provides an authentication framework for 802.11-based local area networks. Security systems that adhere to the 802.1x protocols provide higher levels of wireless security and ease of device management for wireless local area networks. The protocol and its sub-protocols provide methods for better protecting authentication and data transmission.

The 2400 family of data collection handheld computers is one of the industry' s most widely adopted technologies. The rugged computers are built from the ground up to withstand the rigors of industrial and warehouse use. Intermec estimates as many as 200,000 units are in service today.
