Intermec Technologies Corp. today announced the immediate beta availability of its first developer libraries for the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework, Microsoft's application development framework for smart mobile devices. The software development tools allow developers to quickly build data collection, printing and wireless applications for Intermec mobile computers and terminals using the .NET Compact Framework.
Developer libraries for data collection, report printing, wide-area wireless networking (WWAN) and DEX communication are available from Intermec now. These libraries manage the interaction between the application and the Intermec device. By taking advantage of the libraries, developers can add support for Intermec devices in their applications without writing the interface software. Applications need be written only one time and can run across multiple platforms to connect applications and services.
"These libraries make it very easy for developers to support Intermec products in their applications, so they can concentrate on creating features that solve customers' business problems," said Brian Kristiansen, Intermec's senior product manager for software product marketing. "It gives developers the ability for cross-platform application development without the need to maintain separate sets of code. That saves developers a tremendous amount of time and allows them to quickly deliver feature-rich applications to the market."
"This program reflects Intermec's commitment to Microsoft and to the .NET Compact Framework," said Intermec Director Kate Rafferty-Coronado, who leads Intermec's Microsoft initiatives. Microsoft is an Intermec Global Alliance Partner.
"Microsoft is excited to see Intermec delivering innovative tools for the .NET Compact Framework," said Ed Kaim, product manager for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "Intermec's expertise in mobile computing, combined with the power of the .NET Compact Framework, provides cutting edge technology to mobile application developers."
The Intermec Developer Libraries for Microsoft .NET Compact Framework are available in beta form from the Developer section of Intermec's web site, http://www.intermec.com/. The beta libraries are available to anyone who registers on the site. The company plans to release additional libraries and extended support for Microsoft s Visual Studio .NET 2003 later in the year. The Intermec Developer Libraries for Microsoft .NET Compact Framework were developed in Visual C# .NET and work on 700 Series mobile computers and other devices with Pocket PC 2000 or higher, and Windows CE .NET (Windows CE 4.2) devices.
