Intermec sponsors “RFID and The Real World” Event

Source: http://www.intermec.com , ,

TORONTO, Canada, Sept. 22, 2003 – Intermec Technologies Canada Ltd. today announced its sponsorship of “RFID And The Real World,” an event designed to educate attendees about applications for radio frequency identification (RFID) in retail and logistics supply chains. The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 at the Toronto Congress Centre.

RFID And The Real World is presented by the Supply Chain Development Association, a consortium of leading technology providers, consumer goods manufacturers and retailers convened to explore the use of RFID technology in consumer goods supply chains.

Intermec Technologies Canada will provide a live, interactive demonstration of a pallet/case tracking application using its Intellitagâ RFID technology. The conference also will feature a keynote address by Kevin Ashton, executive director of the Auto-ID Centre. Other topics will include the proposed RFID-based electronic Product Code (ePC) technology and its potential to streamline supply chain management, as well as a “primer” session that will present the basics of RFID technology.

“With recent announcements by major mass-merchandisers that they will require some form of RFID tracking capability by 2005, now is the perfect time for suppliers to examine the benefits and uses of this technology in their own supply chains,” said Jeff Ashcroft, founder of the Supply Chain Network

“Many companies are considering the use of RFID systems for manufacturing tracking and inventory control,” said Brian Lang, Intermec Canada general manager. “This event will give retailers and consumer goods suppliers the information they need to determine where RFID fits in their business processes.”

Goods and assets can easily be tracked with RFID tags, which include a computer chip and its antenna encased in a protective covering of some type depending on the application. Tags are programmed to contain identification, serial numbers, history and other attributes.
