Bidding for DX Mail is heating up, with trade and financial buyers expressing interest in Hays UK’s specialist courier business.
Frontrunners are reported to be Deutsche Post AG and TPG NV of the Netherlands, both of whom are looking to compete against Royal Mail on its home turf.
DC Mail offers guaranteed before-8am delivery options to its 30,000 customers, and currently carries a million items per day. The company turns over £127.6 million (€186m), and was recently granted a seven-year licence to deliver business-to-business mail throughout the UK.
Hays’ strategy to focus on its recruitment business led to last month’s sale of Hays Logistics for £102 million (€150m) to US investment group, Platinum Equity, and now the unloading of DX Mail.
Much further south, Deutsche Post is reportedly looking at expansion in Australia, showing an interest in acquiring Australian delivery service Star Track Express.
Deutsche Post is already represented in Australia through DHL Worldwide, and through Global Mail in the UK.
