Awards round-up

Numerous industry awards have been handed out recently, with honours going to Maersk Logistics, Saia, DHL, Exel, Christian Salvesen, Parceline, GT Nexus, MARC Global, Savi Technology, Eurotunnel, and TNT Express.

Maersk Logistics was awarded the “Consolidator of the Year” award for the fifth year in a row at the Target Corporation 2004 Carrier Conference. Additionally, four Maersk Logistics representatives were rewarded “All Star” recognition for their outstanding performance on an individual basis.

Saia, a wholly owned subsidiary of SCS Transportation, was presented with the "2003 Bronze Team Award" by Lowe’s Companies Inc for attaining Lowe’s GAP Compliance and On-Time Service goals. This is the third consecutive year that Saia has received a distinguished award from Lowe’s.

DHL's Middle East Hub in Bahrain, has been presented with a Transportation Harmonisation Process Compliance Award, first hub in the entire Emerging Markets region to have received this award. The award follows a thorough audit of all Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) hubs, and signifies the success of the DHL Middle East hub in achieving a superior global standard in its express and logistics operations.

Exel, in partnership with BAA Retail, has achieved a London Transport sustainability award for the BAA Retail consolidation centre at London Heathrow airport. Exel has successfully improved the airport’s supply chain whilst reducing congestion and vehicle emissions, and has also been responsible for the recycling of 122 tonnes of cardboard since April 2002.

Christian Salvesen has been recognised with a team award by Leyland Trucks for the successful realisation of significant cost savings through innovation in its inbound distribution network. Christian Salvesen collects parts from major suppliers across the UK and France and delivers them – often just-in-time - into Leyland Trucks’ manufacturing plant in Leyland, Lancashire. Leyland Trucks current volumes stands at around 14,000 trucks a year.

GeoPost UK, parent company of carriers Parceline and Interlink Express, has won the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health & Safety Gold Award for 2004, in recognition of the group’s company-wide achievement in maintaining high occupational health and safety standards in the workplace across its 140-depot network and two main hubs in Birmingham. It is only the second time that the company has entered this award scheme – last year achieving silver status.

Parceline also helped EMI Music to win its ninth consecutive Music Week ‘Best Music Distributor’ award in the UK, providing next-day delivery services to EMI’s retail outlets across the country, for over 9,250 parcels each week.

GT Nexus, Inc, provider of global logistics and supply chain software, has been named by Inbound Logistics magazine to its Top 100 list of information technology providers for 2004. This is the third consecutive year that GT Nexus has been named in the magazine's annual review of the best Logistics IT companies.

MARC Global also features on Inbound Logistics magazine’s 2004 list of Top 100 Logistics Information Technology Provider. The main criterion was not size or revenue, but providing logistics IT solutions that best met diverse and ever-changing customer needs.

Savi Technology has been recognised among the top enterprises in the world for technology innovation and logistics solutions in separate awards granted by Red Herring and Inbound Logistics publishing companies. It is the second time Savi Technology has been a recipient of both the Red Herring 100 and Inbound Logistics Top 100 IT Provider awards.

Savi Technology and its solutions also recently received awards from the National Defence Transportation Association, World Economic Forum, Technologic Partners (now Wireless Ventures), the European Retailers Solutions Conference (Deloitte & Touche), the Washington Post Publishing Company (Government Computer News), World Trade and Upside magazines, among others.

Eurotunnel has scooped one of the travel industry's top awards – being named the Best Train Company in the Guardian & Observer Travel Awards 2004. According to the organisers: "The best way to take a train, it seems, is to drive your car on and head underwater."

TNT Express Singapore has been awarded the five star health and safety management accreditation following a rigorous audit by the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA). The audit is part of a $605,610 global investment made by TNT Express to benchmark the current quality of its health & safety management system across 16 countries, with a view to becoming the first carrier to achieve a five star accreditation throughout its international delivery network by 2005.

TNT Express Singapore also obtained the TAPA Class A certification last year – the Technology Asset Protection Association’s freight security requirements certification.
